Bonnie & Kevin

I remember Bonnie laughing about Kevin's sweater — the one she'd called "overly too tight" — and the whole room going with her. Then Kevin, without missing a beat: "even though your laugh, sometimes, is not that cute." That's them. Years of being together and they still roast each other like best friends, and laugh like they only just met.

They're the kind of couple where nothing feels heavy. Chill, easy, smiling through all of it — through the heat, especially. The day was hot. We'd packed fans for ourselves and ended up handing them around; Bonnie and Kevin made sure we were taken care of right back, tucking the whole reception under one big tent so no one wilted in the sun.

The visual I keep coming back to: the side flap of that tent rolled up, vineyard light pouring in low and orange, the whole room glowing as the sun came down behind the vines. Bonnie and Kevin out on the floor dancing.

And then — of course — the sound cut out. A tiny malfunction, the kind of moment most couples panic through. Bonnie just started singing. O Canada. Loud enough that the whole tent picked it up and ran with her. That's the wedding. That's both of them.
